Trying something new…

TAB, or Teaching for Artistic Behavior is a philosophy of art education in which students are regarded as artists, and have the freedom to direct their own learning.  Over the past few years I’ve been experimenting with a more choice-based way of teaching, and this year I’m diving in completely.  Artwork that parents will see coming home will look substantially different than it has when I taught teacher-guided lessons, but I believe this methodology is a better way to teach.  If you’re curious about this pedagogy I’d encourage you to explore Engaging Learners Through Artmaking  and Studio Thinking from the Start.  These are two of the texts that I’m using to re-design my program from the ground up.  I’m excited to see things unfold, and hopefully my students are too!
